My First Hi-Fi © John Birch 2018.
In the 1970’s I bought my first
hi-fi. My brother said I was mad. He said, I could get a
brand new car for $3,500-.
Why would you want to spend $500- on a hi-fi for? Stupid!
I bought my hi-fi. And when the shop
phoned to arrange delivery I said to my brother.
When it’s delivered, please
don’t go near it.
What happened then, was, I
got home, Friday night, and my brother had unpacked my
brand new hi-fi. And he
said to me, he must have wrecked it. Because it didn’t work now.
Dad said, we’ll take it
back to the shop tomorrow.
We took it back in the
morning. The salesman knew what was wrong straight away. There
was a part at the back of
the amplifier that my brother had connected the wrong way.
He switched it around the
other way and it worked great.
I haven’t ever regretted not
buying a brand new car. I don’t really want one. I’ve listened
to my hi-fi practically
every night since. I like music.
