Plastic World        © J.Birch 1981.

It’s a plastic world    It’s a plastic world

And freedom unfurls her sails

It’s a plastic world    It’s a plastic world

One more’s dead and another one wails

It’s a world away   a world away

It’s America’s moon and Russia fails

It’s a world away   a world away

And the dolls hide their collective tails

Australia’s yacht buys a bendy mast

For ten thousand dollars while children fast

Born to die but their mothers won’t cry

And you say “So why should I?”

A plastic flower in the gutter lies

Along side one more of those older guys

For you it’s just another sad crime

For him ‘the end of the line’

We’ll talk about justice we’ll talk about truth

We teach it in our schools to our youth

But can we make it fair for all man soon?

Did we put a man on the moon?

I live in a land that is run by greed

Where we all spend by whim and not by need

Yes a place where politicians scream

More tax feed the machine

And how can we drive expensive cars

While in the other lane the third world starves?

How can we just smoke ourselves a deal?

While millions can’t find a meal?

It’s a plastic world    It’s a plastic world

And freedom unfurls her sails

It’s a plastic world    It’s a plastic world

One more’s dead and another one wails

It’s a world away   a world away

It’s America’s moon and Russia fails

It’s a world away   a world away

And the dolls hide their collective tails

While you’re thinking bout that plastic flower

A little boy somewhere has got one more hour

And you justify the cost of your plastic flower

By saying “we deserve what is ours”

Well I live in a land where millions say

“Isn’t it a shame”  while millions more die in pain

Instead of saying “We should share”

“With others what is rightfully theirs.”
